Kotwali police in Ballia district on Wednesday arrested seven persons accused in the case of a student leader's murder and injury to his friend on Tuesday.
Producing arrested assailants before media on Wednesday, SP Ballia Rajkaran Nayyar said in the case of the murder of Hemant Yadav (22) and for injuring his friend, five named accused and two other assailants, including Pitesh Chaurasia, Rohit Chaurasia, Sandeep Singh, Rajdeep Singh, Y N Tiwari, Shivaji Pandey, and Krishna Trwari were arrested by inspector Kotlwai Rajiv Kumar and his team.
Kotwali police also recovered cricket bats used in the attack on Hemant and his friend, while two motorcycles of the assailants were also seized, said Nayyar, adding that during the initial investigation, it came to light that Hemant and the assailants were old rivals and they had clashed in the past too.
