12158667868?profile=RESIZE_584xWhen detective constable Laura Hitchen recently retired from the Humberside Police after serving 27 years, little did she know that she would again be fighting crime 5000 miles away on the tiny island of Barbados as the head of the local chapter of the Community Crime Report initiative.

The Community Crime Report (CCR) was launched in March 2023 as an initiative to boost crime awareness, crime prevention and safety within communities around the world. CCR is an online platform for community members to upload alerts and reports anonymously on Robbery, Assault, Rape, Cyber crime, Murder and other types of all criminal activity in their communities worldwide.

All crime reports and alerts on our platform are instantly shared with the members of all communities, business owners, the media/press and to law enforcement agencies. For more information visit the CCR platform at CommunityCrimeReport.com.

Her interest in joining the team of the CCR initiative came about after a chance encounter with its Founder, Charles Lewis at a bar on the West Coast of Barbados on one of her many visits to the island.

As a regular visitor to Barbados and now a new property investor/owner in the St James area, Ms Hitchen is particularly concerned about the increase in crime and the impact it has on local communities and the tourism economy. This together with her love for the island and her crime fighting instincts have fuelled her interest in joining the CCR team.

Retirement for the police was just an opportunity for Ms.Hitchen to explore other ambitions where she could channel her extensive experience in fighting crime. Joining the team of the CCR platform was an obvious and natural transition.

The announcement of this appointment comes on the heels of the concerns expressed recently in the press/media by the Barbados Commissioner Of Police, Richard Boyce that crime is on the increase.

The management of the CCR initiative is excited to work with Ms. Hitchen, and welcomes the opportunity to learn from her as they strive to boost crime awareness and safety in communities Barbados and the wider Caribbean.

The founder of the newly launched Community Crime Report (CCR) initiative, Charles Lewis has set out the framework to partner with Police Departments all over the world, as part of their ongoing community relations and crime fighting strategies.

Under this partnership, police officers will have access to the platform for the following purposes.

  1. To upload reports on criminal activities.
  2. To review reports published by members of the community for updates on criminal activity in their jurisdiction.
  3. To review published reports for updates on criminal activity in other jurisdictions which may assist with their investigations.
  4. To boost their community policing and piblic relations strategies.

ABOUT CCR
CCR is a platform which enables members of the community to upload detailed reports of any criminal activity they are a victim of or a witness to. This platform is also for police to upload crime reports, advisories and other information as part of their crime awareness, crime prevention and crime solving strategies.

These crime reports are then shared instantly with our local partners and the members of all neighbouring communities.

CCR also aims to collaborate with Neighborhood Watch, Crime Stoppers and other crime fighting networks and initiatives.

CCR is a free public service in the fight against crime.

BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY
CCR offers the following benefits to the members of the community, businesses and to the police.

  1. CCR is an effective platform to instantly report and share information about criminal activity with members of the neighbouring communities.
  2. It is important for all members of the community to be notified instantly of any criminality activity as a crime awareness and prevention strategy.
  3. Detailed crime reports published on the CCR platform can assist police with their investigations.
  4. Instant widespread notification of criminal activity can result in the quick apprehension of criminals.
  5. Submitting instant crime reports can save other community members from becoming victims of the same crime.
  6. CCR is also an effective platform for the police to instantly disseminate information to the public about criminal activity.
  7. CCR is also an effective platform for the police to galvanise the support of the members of the community in the fight against crime.
  8. Effective, widespread use of the CCR platform will also be a deterrent to criminals.

Police are also invited to assist in the PR campaign to encourage the members of their community to use the CCR platform to fight crime.

CCR was launched by a community member who was the victim of a burglary and recognised the need for this type of platform as a crime fighting tool.

Community Crime Report In The Barbados Press

Source Media: Barbados Today - https://barbadostoday.bb/2023/03/28/crime-reporting-tool-launched/

Crime-reporting tool launched

A local resident who was the victim of an attempted burglary earlier this month has launched a Community Crime Report platform in an effort to reduce criminal activity in communities.

Charles Charlie Spice Lewis who is spearheading the initiative, told Barbados TODAY that Barbadians have the opportunity to submit details of crime immediately to the Community Crime Report platform and the information would be shared instantly with members of neighbouring communities.

“This is a platform that enables members of the community to upload videos explaining any crime that they have been a victim of or witnessed. It is also available to the police department to use to upload information about criminal activities as part of their investigations and crime-solving procedures. It is totally free of charge as a public service.

“In addition to publishing videos of details of crime, you can also blog about it.

“Someone who is not able to take a selfie can just upload information to the blog and we will then spread it to the immediate community and then all of the neighbouring communities. It’s a web application at the moment but it will soon be turned into an app” he said.

Stressing that sharing information about criminal activity could prevent another person from becoming a victim of a similar crime and also lead to the quick apprehension of criminals, Lewis encouraged Barbadians to make contributions to the platform which could be accessed through communitycrimereport.com.

He said though it has only been a few days since the platform was launched, he was pleased with the public’s response and the feedback he received from law enforcement officials.

He indicated that he has sent correspondence about the platform to the office of Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce and Attorney General Dale Marshall about forming potential partnerships to allow for the expansion of the platform.

“I spoke to a senior police officer at Holetown Police Station and he encouraged me to write to the Commissioner of Police to try to include the entire police department in the strategy because they can use it to upload crime reports themselves or to view it to see what crime is taking place that they may not be aware of.

“This is not a programme that was launched out of the police department, it is private sector driven and we are inviting the police and the government to support it and we also want people in communities to support it because without the participation of the majority of people, it doesn’t work,’ he said.

Lewis, who is an outspoken adult entertainment advocate, recalled that around 5 a.m. on March 4 a man who attempted to enter his residence, stole items from his patio.

He said footage from the incident captured on his surveillance camera was shared with police. That footage and assistance from persons within his community, resulted in the perpetrator being captured a few days later and eventually prosecuted for his unlawful actions, Lewis added.

“It is my understanding that he has also confessed to several other burglaries that he did in the week or two leading up to the burglary at my house. I am appealing to members of communities, as well as business owners, to take a serious look at the platform, subscribe and use it,” Lewis said. (AH)

Press Release (Community Crime Report)

Victim Of A Burglary Fights Back By Launching A Community Crime Report Platform

The victim of a recent burglary in St James, Barbados decided to use his own financial resources and knowledge of today's technology to fight back by launching a global crime fighting initiative.

On 4th March 2023, a burglar attempted to break into the home of entrepreneur Charles Lewis on the west coast of Barbados, but was unsuccessful. He then proceeded to steal various items from the porch. Unknown to the burglar, he was captured on the security surveillance camera. Upon viewing the footage, Mr Lewis immediately alerted the police and the members of his community. He also posted the video footage on social media.

It was the vigilance and support of the community that led to the quick arrest and prosecution of the burglar, who has since been sentenced to 8 months in prison for this crime.

The experience became the catalyst to the launching of the Community Crime Report (CCR) platform by Mr Lewis on 20th March 2023, as a valuable public service for the members of communities worldwide, in the fight against crime.

CCR is a platform which enables members of the community to upload detailed reports of any criminal activity they are a victim of or witnesses to. These reports are then shared instantly with the members of all neighbouring communities.

The police are also invited to upload crime reports, advisories and other information as part of their crime awareness, crime prevention and crime solving strategies.

  7. CCR is also an effective platform for the police to galvanise the support of the members of the community to fight crime.
  8. Effective, widespread use of the CCR platform will be a deterrent to criminals.

As part of the research, Mr Lewis spoke to Station Sargeant Lynch of the Holetown Police Station in Barbados, who immediately recognised the need and potential of the Community Crime Report platform as a crime fighting tool for the police and the community. Officer Lynch also advised Mr Lewis to send a letter to the Commissioner Of Police to get the support of the entire police force.

Information has also been sent to the Attorney General, Hon. Dale Marshall to inform him of this initiative.
