Gauteng police arrested more than 1700 suspects over the long weekend and recovered 65 unlicensed firearms.

Suspects were arrested during operations and routine police stop and search in various parts of the province.

The perpetrators were found to have committed serious and violent crimes such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, car hijacking, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, fraud, and theft. Diligent and intelligent police observation during routine patrols led to the discovery of most firearms.

Police believe these are the firearms that are used during the commission of serious and violent crimes in the province.

Intense investigations by the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit have yielded yet another positive results when two suspects were arrested for possession of illegal firearms and dealing in drugs in Hibberdene on Friday morning, 28 April 2023.
One suspect, aged 28-years-old was found in possession of 750 heroin capsules, two firearms whose serial numbers were filed off and ammunition.
Another suspect, a 43-year-old man was also nabbed with 900 capsules of heroin.
The two will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday 1st May 2023.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has strongly condemned an incident in which a 30-year-old woman, last night, 29 April 2023 allegedly stabbed and killed her partner aged 29.
The incident took place at Morarela village under Elandskraal policing precinct outside Marble Hall at about 22:45.
Police have opened a case of murder. The motive for the killing is not yet known but domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
The suspect will appear before the Marble Hall Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 02 May 2023.

Two former G4S employees were arrested on Monday, 01 May 2023, in Bloemfontein.
The pair will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 03 May 2023, on a charge of assisting #ThaboBester to escape from lawful custody and defeating the ends of justice.
The team investigating this case have so far arrested eight suspects and cannot rule out the possibility of effecting more arrests.

A hitman and a husband killer was sentenced yesterday, 25 April 2023 in the Gqeberha High court for the murder of the accused’ estranged husband who was shot at his Marikana home in Booysens Park in January 2020.
 
The cold and callous murder was triggered by greed when accused Ntombizodwa Solwandle (42), while separated from her husband had taken out policies on him. Hitman, Masixole Nyaba(32) was introduced to her by a friend and on 18 January 2020, the two accused and the friend went to the house. The victim, Mnoneleli Solwandle was phoned to come outside where he was shot by Nyaba.
 
The murder case was investigated by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit and as the investigation progressed, the deceased wife and Nyaba were arrested at SAPS Bethelsdorp on 23 January 2020 on a charge of murder. They remained in custody until sentencing. Her friend who arranged the hitman was shot and killed in her flat in Zwide in 2021.

A 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the murder of 10 people in one famiy in Imbali in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands on Friday.

It is alleged that a group of gunmen stormed the house and opened fire on the family.

One suspect was killed during a shoot-out with the police, while another was wounded and is still in hospital.

The KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker says officers have launched a manhunt for a third suspect.

In the early hours if this morning, Sunday, 23 April 2023, members attached to Operation Restore were executing a roadblock on the N7 near Klawer when they pulled over a suspicious Toyota bakkie with two occupants.
They ensued with a search of the bakkie and its occupants which led to the discovery of 29 unpolished diamonds and a substantial amount of cash in possession of the one occupant and three unpolished rubies in possession of the other occupant.
The stones were confiscated and the two suspects, aged 33 and 46, were arrested on the spot and the vehicle was confiscated as evidence as well. The duo will appear in the Klawer Magistrates’ court, once charged for the illegal possession of precious stones.

SUSPECT NABBED IN POSSESSION OF HIJACKED AND STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLES IN POWER PARK SOWETO
A 38-year-old male was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in Power Park, Soweto.
On Friday, 21 April 2023, whilst attending an operation at Motsoaledi Informal Settlement, officers received a lookout for a stolen Kia K2700 pick-up which was said to be passing Power Park.
The officers immediately responded and the vehicle was spotted being escorted by a grey Ford Figo. There was one male driver in the stolen vehicle and there were two males in the escort vehicle.
The officers activated the blue lights to stop the two vehicles. The males in the Ford Figo alighted and fled on foot abandoning the vehicle. The officers followed the stolen vehicle and managed to stop it and apprehend the driver.
An inquiry into the Ford Figo was conducted and it was discovered that the vehicle was hijacked and sought as per the Booysens SAPS case.
The male suspect was detained at Orlando SAPS and he is due to appear at the Orlando Magistrates Court. The two vehicles were seized and booked in at the SAPS Lenasia pound.

Date of incident: 21 April 2023

The incident took place in Millarina Drive, Newlands West, just after 4pm.

According to an incident report, the boy’s grandmother, who had been inside the house, heard a loud bang coming from outside.

She went to investigate and found her grandson lying in a pool of blood against the fence.

The grandmother and a neighbour took the boy to hospital.

The gunmen and motive for the shooting are unknown.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in Newlands are investigating a case of murder of a 7-year-old boy which reportedly occurred on 21 April 2023 on Milarina Drive.

“It is alleged that the victim was with a friend when he was fatally shot by a unknown man. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”

Date of incident: 20 April 2023 

One person has been killed in an alleged shooting incident KwaZulu-Natal.

It is understood the shooting took place on the M7 after Main Road in Durban, just before 10am on Thursday morning.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services’ Garrith Jamieson said they arrived on the scene to find what he called “total carnage”.

“It is believed that a single vehicle was involved in the shooting incident before overturning across the center island and coming to rest on its side.

“A male believed to be in his forties was found inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was assessed by paramedics, however, he had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” Jamieson said.
