11063363891?profile=RESIZE_710x#Transgender women and gay man targeted in Whitechapel arson attack hate crime, Met Police say

A devastating fire that tore through a flat in London’s East End is being treated by Scotland Yard as a transphobic hate crime.

The inhabitants are said to have just escaped the suspected arson attack which ripped through an apartment on the fifth floor of a six-storey block in
#Whitechapel last Friday.

Chief inspector Dave Hodges said: “This is a live hate crime investigation with active lines of inquiry.

A Gofundme page set up to raise money for the flat’s three residents, two
#trans women and a #gay man, described the fire as “one of the most terrifying situations any of them have had to face”.

It claims that the building’s fire alarms did not sound, and says “the outcome would have been fatal” had one of the residents not been awake and heard an explosion from her window, at the other end of the flat.

Around 25 firefighters in four engines were scrambled to the blaze in Whitechapel High Street at roughly 6.15am on April 14, after 14 separate people called 999 to report it.

They spent nearly an hour tackling the flames, which were under control by 7.10am.

Jack Gilbert, local resident and member of the NSY
#LGBTQI+ Independent Advisory Group, said: “I am pleased the local police are investigating this as a hate crime. This means they know it will impact trust and confidence, and as a result have instituted the Gold Group process.

After the attack, Jones fled along a canal towpath, but handed himself in the next day after police issued a #CCTV image of the suspect.

The glamour model ex-girlfriend of boxer Joe Calzaghe is facing jail after being convicted of money laundering in a £100 million operation to smuggle cash to Dubai.

Jo-Emma Larvin, 44, took suitcases containing around £5m in cash through Heathrow Airport and on to flights to the United Arab Emirates in Autumn 2020.

Larvin, her partner Jonathan Johnson, 55, Amy Harrison, 27, and Beatrice Auty, 26, were all part of an operation to smuggle dirty money out of UK, knowing or suspecting it was the proceeds of criminal conduct as they agreed to act as “money mules”.

11063176078?profile=RESIZE_710xA teenager has been handed a 12-and-a-half-year prison sentence for stabbing a girl seven times in the back of the neck after his girlfriend broke up with him when she discovered the pair had secretly dated.

Alex Tye, 17, left a 16-year-old girl paralysed when he attacked her in a park near her home in the village of Benhall, Suffolk

He was sentenced to detention for life with a minimum of 12 and a half years at Ipswich Crown Court

She is in rehabilitation to try to get back as much movement as possible.

The court heard she only survived by pretending to be dead after the attack and did not scream until Tye had driven away from the scene.

She lay unable to move until she was found by a dog walker around four hours later and emergency services were called.

Tye had taken her phone away when he left the park.

The court heard that Tye had messaged his ex-girlfriend saying “I would kill to get you back” after the pair split up.

He messaged the victim and arranged to meet her at night in a park near her home.

The court heard that the victim had jokingly asked Tye “you are not going to stab and kill me?” when she received the unexpected invitation to meet him.

The pair chatted on a bench for more than an hour and kissed before Tye attacked her as they were leaving the park.

He had researched which parts of the body are the worst to be stabbed and how long it takes someone to die of a stab wound, several weeks before the incident, the court heard.

The teenager pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court in January. He also admitted possession of a bladed article.
