A man who sexually assaulted and attempted to rape a woman in her own home has been jailed for 12 years with an extended six year licence period.

Karan Pullock, 37 of #Hackney, London was sentenced on Friday 19 May at Wood Green Crown Court. He will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Pullock pleaded guilty on 18 January 2023 to Attempted robbery, Attempted rape, Sexual assault and Threats to kill. Additional counts of attempted rape and false imprisonment were left on file.

The charges relate to an incident on Thursday 30 June 2022, when Pullock lived in the same block of flats as the victim. They did not know each other. Pullock entered the victim’s home through an adjoining attic.

The victim returned home later that day, noticing that the blinds had been drawn and her dog was unusually quiet. Pullock emerged from a dark room with a knife, grabbing the victim as she tried to fight him off. He overpowered her and held a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her if she continued to scream.

He then took the victim into her bedroom, tied her to a chair and demanded money. He began to cut the victim’s clothes off before sexually assaulting her and attempting to rape her.

Shortly after, Pullock called police confessing to the incident. Officers immediately attended the scene and arrested him.

Following extensive enquiries including a thorough search of Pullock’s home address, officers discovered that he had attached his phone to the peephole of his door so that he could monitor the victim’s movements.

Pullock was subsequently charged with a number of offences in connection with the incident, before being remanded in custody.

Man 40,molests girl 10

A 40-year-old man who allegedly abducted and sexually molested a 10-year-old girl at Anaji Queen of Peace near Takoradi has been arrested by the police.

The man, whose name was given only as Thomas and a mason by profession, allegedly kept the little innocent girl in his room for six days while the parents were looking for her.

According to sources, the suspect would lock the little girl in his room when he was away to work and would allow her to come out when he return from work.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an interview, the father of the victim, Confidence Fiadzo, commended the police for their swift intervention in arresting the suspect.

He indicated that he used to stay at Mpatado with his children, including the 10-year-old girl, and that they moved to the Anaji area not long ago.

He said in the early morning of Saturday, May 6, 2023, his 10-year-old daughter decided to go and fetch water from a well at Anaji Queen of Peace, which is about 10 minutes walk from their new residence, and did not return.

He noted that when he realised that his little daughter was not returning, he asked her elder siblings to go and search for her but they could not find her.

“They combed all the area, including the location of the well and all uncompleted buildings, but they could not find my daughter,” he added.

He said later he reported the case to the police and made some radio announcements, and published her photograph on social media.

Mr. Fiadzo told DAILY GUIDE that a female neighbour of the suspect later saw the little girl come out of the man’s room.

According to the neighbour, because the man did not have a wife or a child, she became suspicious after seeing the little girl coming out of his room. So she reported the case to the Anaji police.

The police quickly rushed to the place, rescued the girl and arrested the suspect, and called the father to inform him.

They later directed the father to send her daughter to the hospital for an examination, and it was there that the doctors confirmed that the little girl was sexually molested by the suspect.

The suspect is currently at the Kwesimintsim Police Station assisting in investigations.

A former Labour MP has been jailed for more than two years after he downloaded and distributed images of children as young as three being raped.

Paul Clark, 66, who represented his home town of Gillingham, Kent, in parliament, had more than 1,000 images and movie clips across five electronic devices that showed serious acts of abuse.

He also engaged in sexually explicit online chats in which he shared a number of the images, Maidstone crown court heard.

The court was told that none of his offending took place while he was an MP from 1997 to 2010.

Clark became the first Labour MP for the Kent constituency, overturning a Conservative majority in the 1997 election. He was immediately made a junior minister in Tony Blair’s government, working as a parliamentary private secretary for a number of cabinet ministers at the time including John Prescott and Ed Balls.

When he was arrested by the National Crime Agency at his Gillingham home in May 2021, he told officers: “I know why you’re here. I kept telling myself to stop.”

Last December, he pleaded guilty to three offences including making indecent photos of children between April 2013 and May 2021; and distribution between October 2020 and May 2021.

The prosecutor Daniel Stevenson told the court there were two “distinct periods of offending”, with 20 images downloaded in 2013, and the majority downloaded during the coronavirus lockdown.

In total, Clark had 298 category A images – the most serious classification – 415 category B and 733 category C images, found on two iPhones, an HP laptop, a hard drive and Acer computer tower. Of these, 343 were videos, with 141 classed as category A.

Stevenson said: “The age range of children was between three and 16, mostly relating to females although there was at least one image of a six-year-old male child.”

The prosecutor said there were “two significant chatlogs” used to discuss the sexual abuse of children, during which he and two other users shared explicit videos and images.

Judge Philip Statman said the case represented “a tragic fall for someone who had put the community first”, adding his offending was so serious that jail was inevitable.

The Bibiani Circuit Court has remanded a 24-year-old National Service Person at Sehwi Asawinso Methodist Primary B to three weeks in police custody for allegedly defiling three pupils in the Sehwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region of Ghana.

The accused, Bismark Ansu, is a Class 2 teacher of the three victims.

According to reports, in January this year, he organised extra classes for his pupils in his house with a claim that he needed to complete the syllabus of the academic year, without the knowledge of the school authorities.

Bismark Ansu, however, took advantage of the extra classes to lure three of the pupils – who are between the ages of eight and nine years old – to have sexual intercourse.

He threatened to kill them if they disclose their ordeal to anyone.

After some weeks of the alleged sexual assault, the parents of the victims noticed abnormal blood discharges from their daughters’ private part and upon interrogation, they disclosed the ordeal.

A report was made to the police at Sehwi Asawinso and a medical form was issued to the complainants to take the victims to any government hospital for examination, treatment, and endorsement, all of which corroborated the defilement claims.

The accused person was subsequently arrested and was charged with three offenses: i) threat of death contrary to Section 75 of the Criminal Offences 1960 [ACT 29], ii) defilement contrary to Section 101 of Criminal Offences 1960 [ACT 29], and iii) threat of harm contrary to Section 74 of the Criminal Offences 1960 [ACT 29] and was put before the Bibiani Circuit Court.

Suspect Ansu has been remanded and is to reappear on Monday, May 29 after the court heard the details of the cases.

Meanwhile, the victims are responding to treatment.

11065264497?profile=RESIZE_584xLancashire man who raped 12-year-old girl jailed for 16 years

A man who lured a 12-year-old girl to a flat before raping her has been jailed for 16 years.

Nicusor Manole, of Market Square in Nelson, Lancashire, was convicted after a trial at Preston Crown Court.

Police said the 27-year-old had met his "young, vulnerable" victim by chance in Burnley in June 2022.

After buying her some Lucozade and offering her £10, he persuaded the girl to travel to a flat with him in Brierfield, Pendle.

While in the Colne Road flat the court heard that Manole's mood changed.

He became angry, removed the girl's clothes, and then raped her.

Her ordeal only ended when she managed to persuade Manole to leave the flat together.

When the door was unlocked, she ran into the street and flagged down a cyclist, who saw she was crying and distressed.

She revealed she had been sexually assaulted.

'Terrible ordeal'

Inquiries by Lancashire Police soon identified Manole as being responsible.

He left Brierfield but was arrested four days later on the M6 in Staffordshire.

The judge branded Manole an "offender of concern" as he handed him a 16-year prison sentence.

Manole was also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Det Con Hannah Brown, of Lancashire Police, said: "This was a horrific offence committed by Nicusor Manole and we welcome the lengthy prison sentence which the judge imposed.

"Manole took advantage of a young, vulnerable victim and subjected her to a terrible ordeal which left her traumatized.¨

Rapist who launched sex attack on a 13-year-old #schoolgirl in a park but was not jailed because he was 'too young for prison' will appeal his conviction

A man who was spared a prison sentence for raping a 13-year-old girl is to appeal against his conviction.

The case of Sean Hogg sparked anger when he was deemed too young to be jailed despite being found guilty of attacking the teenager.

New sentencing guidelines for under 25s meant he was not sent to prison and instead given 270 hours of unpaid work.

Hogg was 17 when he attacked the young victim in Dalkeith Country Park in Midlothian on a number of occasions in 2018.

Hogg was sentenced earlier this month at the High Court in Glasgow after being found guilty of rape.

Judge Lord Lake said he had to take Hogg's age into account. As well as the community work, Hogg was placed under supervision and put on the sex offenders register

The teenager's family have urged the Crown Office to appeal the sentence imposed on Hogg on the grounds that it is 'unduly lenient'.

First Minister Humza Yousaf has said he understands the concerns which have been expressed about the case, but stressed that sentencing was a matter for the judiciary.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service said: 'We have received intimation of intention to appeal against conviction.'

A spokesperson for the Crown Office said: 'The Crown is currently considering whether there are grounds for lodging an appeal against this sentence.'

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, has disclosed that within the last year 463 cases of child abuse have been reported. Of this number, 126 were of a sexual nature.

These startling figures were revealed on Wednesday during the 2023/2024 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure debate in Parliament, where Humphrey, who recently supported the new Child Protection Bill, said that the figures of abuse cases being reported to the Child Care Board, have been worrying.

“The Child Care Board over the course of the last few years has been dealing with cases of abuse. In the period 2019 to 2020, there were 495 cases of abuse of children. In 2020 to 2021 437 cases of abuse reported; in 2021 to 2022, 538 cases, and between April 2022 and January 2023, 462 cases of abuse.”

He added: “If you consider last year, the sexual abuse cases last year were 126…that is a sexual abuse case every three days. Therefore the legislation that is guiding the ministry, must be legislation that is fit-for-purpose.”

Under the proposed legislation, a person found to be engaging in cruelty or abuse towards a minor, will be “liable on summary conviction to a fine of $100 000 or to imprisonment for a term of 10 years or to both”.

The 2023-24 Estimates Debate on Wednesday also heard that discussions with a wide range of agencies have already taken place regarding the mandatory reporting of child abuse cases, which forms part of the pending Child Protection legislation.

In response to a question during the debate from Member of Parliament for St Philip North, Dr Sonia Browne, Director of the Child Care Board, Roseann Richards, told the Lower House that, “There is a section of the new legislation that outlines the personnel who will deal with such matters, ranging from parents, medical practitioners, mental health professionals, teachers, social workers, the police and those who collect data from the Internet if the incident is, for whatever reason, posted there

“In terms of the school system, presently if teachers suspect one of their students is in an abusive situation, they can report the matter to the guidance counsellor who will then speak to the student, and from there the principal will address it and report to the Child Care Board or law enforcement if necessary.”

When asked whether further training will be provided for the parties involved, Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, stated that “We have been discussing the matter with the Ministry of Education and Cabinet has agreed that training should be provided for the various stakeholders, and we have already started the discussion process. For example, in October 2022 there was a workshop held for members of the Barbados Police Service on how to treat to child abuse cases.”

Dr. Browne also queried what provisions were being made for children who had ‘aged out’ of the island’s children’s homes, especially since the closure of the Stirling Children’s Home in her constituency which was being used for that purpose. Richards responded: “We are planning to start a new facility in Bullens in St. James, and will also be building one or two cottages that they can live in for a while until they find a more permanent residence.”

On the issues of domestic violence and child maintenance, Dr. Browne lamented that while “some of the measures sound good on paper” they are often not implemented.

“I have heard some women say they would rather become sex workers than deal with the Welfare Department. What is being done to address training? There was also a situation where a woman with five children was put out of a safe house because the person in charge complained that her children were too noisy.”

Chief Welfare Officer, Deborah Norville noted, “We have a Family Services section within the department that deals with marital breakdowns, child maintenance, child access and child custody, and we meet with the parties involved, give them counselling, and then prepare a report for the court, which will then be used to address these issues from a legal perspective.”

Addressing the topic of domestic violence, Programme Officer with the Bureau of Gender Affairs, William Warner, said that Government established a National Committee on Domestic Violence in 2019 comprising various agencies and that that group would be meeting shortly to devise an action plan.
