A middle-aged man who masturbated in front of two women on board a train has been jailed for a total of 26 months.

Dean Benjamin, 41, and of Stockingstone Road, Luton, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on 16 March where he pleaded guilty to outraging public decency.
On 25 May, he returned to the same court and a judge sentenced him to a total of 26 months imprisonment.

He received 20 months for outraging public decency and being in breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and six months for a second exposure offence investigated by Bedfordshire Police.

At just after 5pm on 3 March, the victim was seated on-board a London to Nottingham train service when she noticed Benjamin leant on the luggage rack staring at her.

Moments later she looked back up and he had placed his hands down the front of his trousers and was clearly masturbating.

The victim texted British Transport Police (BTP) using its 61016 service and told a passing ticket inspector who moved her to the first-class carriage away from Benjamin.

He then ambled down the train to its first-class carriage and again began masturbating while staring at a second woman as she worked on her laptop.

After being notified by the ticket inspector, an off-duty police officer on the service apprehended Benjamin until the train arrived at Kettering station where he was removed and immediately taken to police custody.

DC Mohit Behl, investigating officer in the case, said: “Benjamin is quite simply a disgusting individual who targeted two lone women for his own sexual gratification.

“I hope his prison sentence serves as a stark warning to sexual offenders – we will do everything in our power to put your behind bars, without exception.

“If you experience or witness repulsive behavior such as this on the rail network, I urge you to report it to us either by texting 61016 as the victim did in this instance, or by calling 0800 40 50 40.

“Nothing is too small or too trivial to report, and we will always take you seriously.”

  • A man who attacked and killed his wife in her own home in Bethnal Green has been found guilty of her murder.
On Wednesday, 17 May, a jury at the Old Bailey were unanimous in their decision to find Quyum Miah, 41 (30.09.81) of High Street, Homerton guilty of the murder of 40-year-old Yasmin Begum.
Miah had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to theft and two counts of fraud.
He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at the same court on Friday, 9 June.
Speaking on behalf of Yasmin's family, her brother, Atik Zaman, said: "Firstly we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the detectives who worked so tirelessly to collect the evidence that caught Yasmin’s killer. Without their efforts, he may have gone on to put another family through this nightmare.
“Today an evil creature was found guilty of murder, fraud, and burglary. A creature that should never be allowed to walk the streets again. He chose to murder a daughter, a mother, a sister for no reason other than financial gain.
“He values life at £800 as that it what he stole. He broke into our sister’s home and brutally murdered her then robbed her. We hope that he gets reminded every day of his measly existence, how evil he is, and what awaits him in the next life.
“We ask that our privacy be respected as we try to pick up the pieces and go on with our lives without Yasmin.”
Yasmin was found collapsed inside her address in Globe Road, E2 shortly after 16:00hrs on 24 March 2022 after concerned school staff attended her home when she failed to collect her children from school.
Yasmin had been stabbed several times and items, including her bank card and jewelry she was wearing, had been taken.
Miah was married to Yasmin but the pair had been separated for about a year, and divorce proceedings were underway. Attention quickly fell on him, and detectives swiftly began to piece together his movements. Forensic analysis of CCTV, together with dynamic interventions to secure evidence ensured a compelling case was compiled against Miah.
